Entrepreneurship and Burnout

WIll Talks Biz Podcast Episode 36 Entrepreneurship and Burnout“Don’t take on more than you can handle, have an exit plan, and treat your business like a newborn baby – take care of it until it can walk on its own.”

Over the years I have learned the delicate balance between hustling hard in entrepreneurship and burning out. As an entrepreneur it can be a challenge to manage stress, build a business, and find joy in the process. One important lesson for everyone is how to differentiate between a difficult day and total burnout.

Burnout is when you no longer have the desire or motivation to continue doing something. It can be caused by stress that is not properly managed. Hustle culture is when you work hard with a purpose, and not just for the sake of working hard.

A good leader creates a positive and sustainable hustle culture in their teams. One way to set that example and create a positive work culture is by not taking on more than you can handle. Hire experts and treat your businesses like a newborn baby. Another way is to set boundaries and goals to maintain motivation and mental health. Don’t let entrepreneurship and burnout keep you from your goals.

Episode Highlights:

According to a report in 2022, more than half so 59% of American workers are experiencing or were experiencing at least moderate levels of burnout.

Read about someone who’s gone through certain similar problems or just read about leadership books or other aspects of what you’re dealing with. Don’t be afraid to reach out to that author and tell them how you connected with that. Building community around a certain topic or a thing that you’re facing can really help fuel that drive and motivation.

Find your goals, hire for a purpose.

If you’re hustling just to hustle, you will burn out. Whatever you set for yourself as a goal or an accomplishment is yours and yours alone. When those days get dark and that time where you want to give up, just focus on your goal.
